Finally feeling festive

red and gold themed christmas decorations

I never truly feel remotely Christmassy until I’m at home – with the tree up and all our fabulously shiny, slightly tacky decorations strewn ‘artfully’ across the house. It’s just something for me that is so homey and welcoming and thoroughly right, that anywhere else just feels a … well a lot wrong this close to Christmas.

I’m back at my parents now for winter break, and honestly, I don’t think I realised how much I needed to be at home. I’m not lonely in Sheffield, far from it, and mum and dad have come up to visit me during term time, but you know when you get to that internal level of utter doneness that you’re feeling pretty apathetic and need a change of pace, or a holiday to recharge? Yeah, I hit that. But uni doesn’t exactly make it easy to take spontaneous trips mid-week, so I’ve just strung myself out probs a bit too much. Being home has instantly made me feel a bit more settled. It’s nice.

Last year when I returned home for Christmas, I was too late to help hang the decorations and put up the tree, and the year before that I was in Korea, so I’ve missed the little family tradition of sorting out what (or who) goes where. I missed that.

Do you have any traditions or little bits at Christmas that just make everything feel like they’re finally slotting into place? Let me know so we can share that snuggly warm festive feeling~

Oooh also: what colour theme did you go with for the decor this year? Quite obviously for us it’s red and gold – which it has been for the last two years. Do you have the same theme each year or do you change it up?

I am also feeling festive now that Christmas is right around the corner because packages have to be shipped IMMEDIATELY if they have a chance of making it in time. It's so exciting & I can't wait! xx,

Love the decorations! To be honest, me and my dad have put up a tree, and then mainly put lights up around the place in various rooms to give it some cheer! Oh, and snowflake stickers on just about EVERY window! This year I am actually feeling a little more festive, even though I'm not feeling great? So the festive-ness is sort of taking my mind off of things which is good :)Meg | A Little Twist Of…

This is such a lovely warm post! Made me feel rather nostalgic for my childhood Christmas! Me & my other half haven't really made any traditions yet, even though we've been together 5 years, but I want to start making some as my daughter is getting older. My theme is always red, gold, copper and a little champagne. For me nothing but red says Christmas! Have a wonderful time with your family and have a happy Christmas! XGeorgia Petite
